Trivia Question❓

What is the average number of teeth in an adult human mouth?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

There is an Acronym Commonly Seen in the Business World – ABS – “Always Be Selling”. A Good Corollary for Practice Owners is ABI – “Always Be Improving”.

The business acronym emphasizes that if you’re not making sales, your business is stagnating and perhaps even dying. Everything you do in your business is secondary to sales. All too often, business owners get caught up in the tedium and minutiae of operating their businesses. Simply put, they allocate time and energy to the wrong things. This is a consequence of acting daily with a tactical focus without the overarching umbrella of strategic focus.  Thus, the reminder of ABS.

I am sure many of you are asking yourself, “What does he mean by strategic focus?” My answer is straightforward. It means being intentional about the end state you want to achieve in your practice for yourself, your patients, and your staff.

Paint a picture of your dream practice and ask your staff to do the same. Take inventory of where you are today, measure it against the picture you and your staff build together and identify the deficits—all the places where your practice falls short of your ideal.

If you do this, you will now have an improvement roadmap you and your team have agreed on.  Use it as a guide to help you and your staff focus your time and energy.

Finally, I believe pursuing your dream practice is less about “arriving” and more about the journey to get there. No matter how much progress you make, there will always be room for improvement; thus, ABI.

If you focus on always improving, you will avoid the stagnation and regression that plague so many practice owners.
